Working with Children, Teens and Families
Children experience the world in profound ways, but they may not yet have the language to express what they’re feeling. In my work with younger children, we use play, art, and imagination to explore their inner world. This might include drawing, sandplay, puppets, storytelling, or other creative tools that allow them to communicate and process through doing rather than words alone.
Just as with adults, therapy with children is rooted in trust and confidentiality. At the same time, caregivers play an essential role in the healing process. A child’s growth is deeply connected to the understanding and support they receive at home. I work closely with parents and caregivers to help them better understand their child’s experience, and to explore family dynamics that may be contributing to current challenges. This often includes separate, parent-focused sessions to support the family as a whole.
I have extensive experience working with children and families navigating trauma, loss, and major life transitions—including divorce, the death of a parent or sibling, and adoption. I also support children struggling with anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, and social or peer-related difficulties.
With pre-teens, adolescents, and young adults, my approach shifts developmentally, but remains grounded in the same values: respect, curiosity, and a strong relational foundation. Adolescence is often a time of deep transformation—it can be exciting and full of possibility, but also turbulent and emotionally complex. I work to build a solid, collaborative relationship with each teen, offering a space where they can safely explore their identity, emotions, and relationships.
